Townes

As an added bonus, it flaunts his sense of humor, whereas studio albums always flaunt his sense of impending doom (not that the two can't go together; it's just that they never did until now) [x].

Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that. [Steve Earle]

I've met Bob Dylan and his bodyguards, and I don't think Steve could get anywhere near his coffee table. [Townes Van Zandt]

In an effort to make your Monday night as forlorn as possible, here's some Townes Van Zandt. As I've mentioned, I have found that listening to Townes in the morning is possibly the worst way to get your day started, unless you want it to be depressing and subdued. Excellent, excellent stuff. It's big (2-disc) so I'm putting it on megaupload. If anybody would rather it split in two on rapidshare, give me a shout.

Why have I never posted any Townes? Must rectify ASAP.
Cheers for this.

Boy, you slapped a home run with this post! This record is so great – it paints a perfect picture of early Townes – fragile love songs, tragic ballads, and some pretty funny jokes and stories. I defy anyone to listen to Waitin’ Around to Die without a shiver running down their spine or a swallowing down a catch in their throat by the end of Tecumseh Valley. I’ve got a beat up vinyl copy that I “borrowed” from my father a long time ago, so this nice digital package is much appreciated. I listened to Old Quarter a couple of times this morning then I shifted over to a later recording (Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt & Guy Clark - Together At The Bluebird Café) and the change in his voice is subtle, but telling – he sounds tired, but still hopeful in spite of it. I’ll swap you the Bluebird Café for the Old Quarter, let me know what you think of it!

Thank you so very much for uploading this. This really made my day. I'd been searching forever for this album - it is out of print in my country and only available used for outrageous prices.

Thanks, thanks, thanks... for helping me with my Townes van Zandt obession. Yes, you made someone very, very happy indeed.
