spring break

Hello-

I'm on Spring Break (finally), so there will be a lull in posts while I'm out having fun (hopefully).

1st Ukrainian Rockabilly & Psychobilly Comp (1998)

I downloaded it but have only listened to maybe two songs and I've liked what I've heard. Quite intriguing. And if you're wondering about the Ukraine. . . The Comp link is from another blog but I can't remember where it's from, so to wherever this came from, thank you :)

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade OST sampler

Another fantastic soundtrack from Mr John Williams. I adore Indiana Jones and I adore John Williams' work (he's the guy who did Star Wars, Jaws, the first three Harry Potters, Superman, ET. . . and so on.) Sure, he's starting to recycle themes (compare "No Ticket" and the Crabbe and Goyle track, I think, from Chamber of Secrets), but he's been at it for a really long time.

Last night I got to see the Last Crusade on the big screen (I haven't seen any of the Indy movies in the theater), had a lot of fun. The Ziegfeld theater at 54th between 6th and 7th Avenue was showing the trilogy this past week; the run ended today. I had wanted to catch all three but thanks to my fantastically frustrating class schedule, I only got to see Last Crusade and Raiders.

Though I almost didn't make it to Raiders. I got back today from a discussion section, turned on the computer, saw that my 6pm discussion section was cancelled. This was at 4:45pm. At the same moment, I decided I was going to catch the 5pm (the last) Raiders showing no matter what. Got on the 1, arrived at Columbus Circle at 5:05pm-ish and ran down to 54th and 6/7th Avenue. Sprinted, which is hard in Converse (no support). Got in just as Indy yells, "There's a snake in the plane!"

Who doesn't want to be Indiana Jones when he/she grows up? :)

PS - the Ziegfeld is showing Singin in the Rain next, an outstanding and amazing film. If anyone has a link to the soundtrack and is willing to share, I'd be very happy. I also highly recommend catching a show at the Ziegfeld. It's huge, shows are running at $7.50 right now, and it's always fun to see older movies on the big screen.

Dirty Pretty Things

A single is set to debut April 24, according to NME.com. Dirty Pretty Things is what happens when your co-singer and -guitarist decides to let drugs come before your friends and the music. You end up with Babyshambles (who don't produce quite as exciting music as the Libertines though it's often nice and melodic) and Dirty Pretty Things.

Speaking of Kate Moss (we were), look how classy she is. It's disgusting.

I've just started to download it so I can't tell you anything except, grab it while you can. The fabulous Modern Music put it up the other day and by the time I got there, it was gone. Flagged and gone.

I actually didn't follow the Awards this year and I won't be watching them. I think Joaquin Phoenix should get something. . . That's about it. Oh, and Keira shouldn't win (did I say that already?). Why isn't Cillian up for something? (As in Best Actor for Breakfast on Pluto?)

And for anybody who is interested, USA is having an SVU marathon right now. Funnily enough, they had an SVU marathon on the weekend before my finals last semester. Ha ha, very funny USA.

cough cough *one of my favorite Muse songs is a cover* cough cough
cough cough *and I didn't know it* cough cough

As the gentlemen from Bring Me the Heads pointed out, Feelin' Good is a cover.

But I guess what I said about the song still applies. It is quite twisted, isn't it? Even when Nina Simone sings it, it still sounds dark. Like the warm fuzzy feeling good feeling came at the expense of someone else's. And that's just hot. :p A sense of triumph.

Since I totally missed the Morrissey news, I've decided to do a better job of keeping track of new releases. So here we go: unnamed Blanche album news! reported on February 20. Because I'm on top of things.

"We recorded 12 songs, there's a Feeny penned number that uses the Drop D tuning, a mournful song Little Jack wrote and sang, a song that Tracee wrote, a bunch of Dan's numbers, and perhaps a cover or two. We will let them marinate a bit, and then finish the overdubs and mixing at Feeny's laboratory, the Tempermill, here in town. It should be released in August.
